All roads do lead to Rome! Cycle Southern Italy, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily 14 September 2019 - 22 October 2019 |
Monday 21 October 2019
We decided to have a rest day today given the amount of traffic expected on the roads and the rough ride along the Via Appia Antica into Rome to the hotel.
After our final group photo, wearing the Viva Italia jerseys, we took the freeway with Wilma driving the white van into Rome during peak hour and came to the lunch spot at the start of the Via Appia where the red van had started preparations for lunch. Peter then drove the white van, like an Italian, to the hotel where we dismantled and packed the bikes into their cases with assistance from Peter.
I headed off to do laundry ahead of the next leg in Israel and stopped by the famous gelateria Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi which dates back to 1880 and, apart from many flavours of gelato, has a range of iced desserts – the tronchetto (ice-cream cake), cassata, Sanpietrino (a semifreddo of zabaglione, coffee, nuts and chocolate) and tramezzini (ice-cream wafer 'sandwiches' filled with Sanpietro). I opted for the Sanpietrino.
Exploring just around our hotel, I found the market and many examples of street art.
Being the last day of the tour, we had celebratory drinks on the terrace of the hotel and our farewell dinner at the nearby Pinsa & Buoi Dei restaurant.
It was a great way to finish off our amazing 38 days on tour with TDA Viva Italia!
No thanks.. Let's have a rest day... |
