Orient Express Day 32 Buteni to Brad - 76km

We woke up at the usual time but with the earlier start compared to the time zone in Hungary it was coldish and foggyish.

Stirling and I agreed to ride together for the day and, as there were to be hills from around the 32km mark, we set off at an easy pace through the mists of Romania and admired the changing landscape as we headed for the hills, passing locals and their various livestock.

There is no shortage of churches in Romania. Every village has at least one and the bigger towns have quite impressive ones.

We passed through the town of Avram Iancu which I assume is named after a Romanian gentleman of the same name who was, in all probability, of Jewish extraction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avram_Iancu

After snacks in Varfurile, we started the first hill climbs in some time and arrived at the lunch spot in good time and ready for apple juice, watermelon and sandwiches.

The remaining 20km or so to Brad was a pleasant ride and we are tonight staying at a pensione with wifi. I am sharing a double bed with Stirling which should prove interesting...

Dinner at the pensione started with minestrone followed by chicken fillet with some kind of rice scoops. Edna surprised everyone with dessert of mini schnekers which she found in town.

So the blog is now up to date!!
