Gourmet Piedmont 2015 - Alba Loop to Barolo | Thursday, April 30 - 42km

Day Two – Alba Loop to Barolo
Distance: 42km Total Ascent: 600m
Towns: Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Barolo, Verduno, Roddi - Long Course: Cornelliano, Piobesi
Activities: Truffle hunting demonstration and Truffle Dinner.
One of the most beautiful rides of the tour, today we ride through the wonderful towns of La Morra and Barolo, with views to the Alps all day long. Meet a true truffle hunter who will demonstrate the art of finding this rare delicacy.

With last night's dinner still hanging heavy, a light breakfast of fruit and coffee was in order.
Around 9am we biked out and after 12km I vanned up the hill to La Morra.

It was a nice downhill to Barolo where we visited the wine museum WIMU and were then on our own for lunch. I had a small pizza.

Another nice little ride downhill to meet truffle hunter Carlo and his superdog Stella for a demonstration. The black truffle season has finished so Carlo planted a few for Stella to find.

I called it a day with 26km on the clock and another climb ahead. After a shower and rest, we vanned to an Agriturismo Casa Scaparone for pasta making and dinner. The pasta was Tajarin, a Piedmont specialty. The pasta made ended up in my first course!

Tonight's menu:

Home made breads including grissini and focaccia with white fennel.
Primo - Tajarin al ragu (veal and pork in tomato base).
Secondo -  Cornetto di bue (marinated veal on the bone with potatoes).
Dolce - Salame del Papa (chocolate sweet with hazelnuts and biscuits).
Made on the premises wines - Roero Arneis (white) 70/30 Barbera/Nebbiolo (first red) and Nebbiolo (second red).
