Orient Express Day 39 Targoviste to Bucharest - 91km

After four hot hard days on the road without a break, we were looking forward to a flat fast ride into Bucharest with the plan being to get to the lunch point at around 74km and then ride in convoy to Bucharest where we have 2 nights in the Ibis Hotel near the Parliament.

I decided to ride with Michele and Francois and kept up with them for the first 30km averaging over 30kph (which is quite fast!) and then caught them at the first drinks stop where we were soon joined by other riders. The local little old lady was bemused by the influx of cyclists.

We were basically riding in the "outer suburbs" of Bucharest so not much to see or photograph. I tacked on to Michele, Francois and Ric for another 15km or so until I had to stop to adjust my saddle which was slipping from all the bumps in the heavy traffic.

After an ice cream stop, I was passed my Marion, Barry and Alice and rode behind them until an unfortunate incident on a bridge when Marion changed her line to go around a pothole and clipped a car on her left. She came off the bike and was very lucky to have just scraped an elbow. The young girl driving the car stopped in tears on the bridge and traffic was held up until we took the bikes to the side of the bridge and made sure Marion was OK.

I headed in to the luch spot and the remaining riders all came in by 11.15am giving plenty of time to eat, drink, nap or have a massage...

The convoy into Bucharest arrived through heavy traffic and roadwork diversions without incident and, as is apparent, I made use of the wifi to catch up with emails and get the blog up to date.

Our gastronome Stirling scouted out an Indian restaurant for dinner and I joined him, John and Paul for an excellent dinner at Indian Taj Cuisine- Art, not just food! (Although some of the art appeared on my tshirt as splashback..)

The restaurant has a wall of photos of famous guests with testimonials including Chevy Chase and "Jim Carter"..

A delicious watermelon ice cream topped off the night and I am now off to bed for a well deserved rest!

Chocolate pips!!
