Mexico Cross Over 2014 - Cancún - Isla Mujeres - Cancún | Monday, February 10 - 32km

After breakfast and testing the bikes, you will cycle to the ferry station and enjoy the crossing by ferry to Isla Mujeres. At first you will cycle around the island, before you snorkel to the world’s second largest reef and then make your way back to the ferry terminal to Cancún and finally, back to your hotel. Accommodation at the Hotel Aquamarina Beach. - Trip Notes

After breakfast I met up with Slavica, the second guest (who was in fact in the hotel overnight), and our tour guide Luis who helped me fit my pedals and odometer to the rental Specialized hardtail. Unfortunately, I could not get the odometer to work so mileage is estimated.

We indeed cycled to the ferry station and enjoyed the crossing by ferry to Isla Mujeres. We visited the Tortugranjs (turtle farm) which was very interesting and criss-crossed the Isla a couple of times looking for the road back to the ferry.

En route we stopped at the statue of Ixchel, the Mayan love Goddess of childbirth and healing before heading to the terminal area for our private boat ride to snorkel and look at fish! I managed a mini snorkel with a life jacket and a life buoy in the shallow part (as I can't swim or put my head underwater) and then enjoyed time on the boat with our very obliging Captain Jesus and his family. Yes, I found Jesus very early this trip and I suspect I shall find many more of him!

Mrs Jesus threw some tortilla chips in the water and, although they did not turn to fish, the nice fish obliged and came to the surface for a close up view without having to actually get wet!! The birds got very excited too..

Back to the big ferry for the 3.30 to Puerto Juarez with musical entertainment on board and a 30 min ride to the Hotel for a shower and blog time before heading across the road to the local Mexican restaurant for an average quesadilla and guacamole.

So that's it for today. Jampacked with excitement!!
