Mexico Cross Over 2014 - Valladolid - Cobá | Tuesday, Feb 18 - 55km + 5km

By bike you will cycle to Cobá. In the afternoon you’ll visit the archaeological sight of Cobá. During the late classical époque, it was a centre of Mayan culture in the northeast of the Yucatán-Peninsula. Accommodation at the Hotelito Sac Be Cobá. - Trip Notes
After a delightful buffet breakfast we vanned to Xocen to visit the Church of Santa Cruz where the locals were preparing to cook their cochinita pibil enteradda!

We then entered the Church and lit candles on a non-denominational basis - wish for something and it might come true....

The plan was to cycle 64km from Xocen to Coba. I made it to 55km before throwing in the towel for the day, or so I thought, and rode in the van to Coba behind Luis and Slavica on their bikes. We had crossed into the State of Quintana Roo along the way, not that you could tell from the condition of the roads which were potholed for most of today’s ride.

We checked in to the Hotelito Sac Be around 12.45, showered, rehydrated and then headed to the COBA historical site which is quite large and offers rusty old ill-fitting bikes to get around on. So, another 5km of humid cycling to see the main parts before heading back to the hotelita for a rest, dinner and an early night.

I thought I’d try the sopa de lima again to try to get over the cold which is lingering.. it was delicious!
