All roads do lead to Rome! Cycle Southern Italy, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily
14 September 2019 - 22 October 2019 |
Sunday 15 September 2019
Having followed protocol on Day 1, today's journey started with a van ride to the lunch spot, some 67.5km away, leaving a ride of 43km to the Hotel Villa Gaia.
As you can see from the profile, we missed some major climbs and steep descents but still managed to find a few hills that for me, in particular, were just too difficult to push up - so there was some walking today. Edna is much fitter and cycling very well although some of the hills were too tough for her.
We had a fun Sunday stopping for refreshments including a baptism party. Several Chinottos with ice were the order of the day for me and a tuna sandwich at the baptism cafe..
Having a lead of 67.5km was not enough to fend off the strong riders in the group so we inevitably were passed on the way in.
Dinner was a great improvement on Day 01 as we ate at a nice restaurant associated with the hotel..
