With
another scorcher ahead, we set off early, just as the sun was rising, in an
attempt to beat the heat.
Most of
the day was spent on the bike route following the Po with the terrain again
mercifully flat.
We
arrived in good time at Amici del Po which is a private “sports club” with
swimming pools, tennis courts and squat toilets! Tents were pitched at the rear
but apparently not far enough from a group of elderly members who decided that
we were too close and found our clotheslines with cycling gear offensive. So we
had to move further towards the rear.
Wolfgang,
a rider from last year’s Orient Express, dropped in for half an hour or so to
renew acquaintances and we then sat down to a dinner of 6 varieties of pizza.
My drink of choice in Italy is Chinottoon ice which, I must say, is as
addictive as Almduddler.
Off to
the tents for another uneasy night with an early start again scheduled for the
morning.
