Orient Express Day 18 Straubing to Passau - 108km

Today was our first taste of summer with sunshine through most of the day. At times it was really quite warm so there were frequent stops for drinks, food and icecream.

Our first pit stop was at Deggendorf where we hit the schnecke payload.

Today was a "packed lunch" day but we decided to stop at a pathside restaurant for schnitzel and chips and a large glass of Fanta. Edna realised that the schnitzel was pork so opted for the chips only. We cycled as a group today with Francois, Leana, Evlyn & Alf and had a fun time along the way.

After plodding on in fairly good time, we arrived in Passau and went off for ice cream and a look around. Stirling found a brochure for a river cruise from Passau to Linz so that became an official option for next day's journey.

We received news through the day that John had fallen and deeply cut his leg. He ended up with 10 stitches and overtook me as the major injury to date, My wounds are healing nicely and now unbandaged.

We made camp at around 5pm and the sun was gone with impending rain guaranteed. We ate a hearty dinner of pasta with duck and retreated to our tents when it started pouring around 7pm. The wind squalls tried to pick the tent up and the rain lashed from all sides. It died down eventually. Another blissful day of camping......

John laughs off his latest injury while the pain meds are still working...
