Orient Express Day 5 Val-de-Meuse to Plombieres - 86km

It was a very cold night and restful sleep was not on the agenda. At least the rain stopped.
We set off after breakfast for a rolling ride through fields and small villages and, at one point, we were enveloped in mist on a downhill for about 3km. We emerged for a hot drink and croissant and pushed on to lunch at 55km where the sun burst out bringing with it thousands of little bugs that were particularly attracted to my bright riding jersey and to the back of my neck..

Not the lunch spot!
The real lunch spot...

IsraelRide meets France

After the usual selection of bread, cheeses and juice we headed out again for a slightly more hilly ride to Plombieres where we knew there would be a steep 2km climb to camp. It was about 3.30pm so another refreshment stop was warranted. I had hot chocolate and shared an apricot tart with Edna.

Slowly slowly up the hill and in to camp to pitch my beloved tent. Just in time as it poured for about 40 minutes so I had a nap..

Dinner tonight was cous cous with the usual vegetables and sausages and a couple of cups of hot tea with honey. Some of the riders are going into town tonight but no way am I going to climb that hill again to get back.

No wifi in this camp so will be posted at next available. 7.30pm – must be bed time. Hope it's a little warmer than last night.
