Trans Oceania 2014 - Beachpoint to Nelson | Friday, November 28 - 122km

It was a wild and windy night in Beachpoint but I slept well in the cabin and awoke to a beautiful sunrise with jet flying over.

Given the forecast of strong headwinds, I opted for the van ride to lunch with three others.

We passed through Millicent which has some nice murals Nothing was open yet so no coffee stops..

The lunch stop was at 60km in a forest and the wind was ridiculous! After the lunch was made and I helped myself to a sandwich, the truck rolled in and I decided it was time to start cycling. I could not get going into the wind and Andreas suggested that we four lucky riders should take the van to camp as it would have to come back for stragglers anyway!

We passed through Mount Gambier where the Moscow Circus is in town!

Again, it was too early to find an open coffee shop but there seemed to be other options - perhaps the German Club or the Cemetery?

We crossed the border into Victoria and checked in at at the Kywong Caravan Park. I got a cabin for me and John and then cycled back to the border for some photos.

Sarcasm in government advertising!!
Nelson is a very welcoming little town! I stopped in at the kiosk for an interesting brunch and then headed back to camp for a shower and a bit of computer time.

The very full lunch van rolled in around 2.45pm and John was among the passengers.

We had a cup of soup and will see what Mark has in store for dinner tonight! The answer: beef curry and dessert of chocolate cake and strawberries.

And a further surprise for tonight - the unveiling and presentation of the Trans Oceania Jersey:
