Trans Oceania 2014 - Wauchope to Barrow Creek | Monday, November 3 - 110km

Today was time trial day with a 50km staggered start handicapped race for 50km to the lunch truck. I opted for a day off the bike and helped set up lunch before becoming the official timekeeper. We had company in the van this morning.. and we passed through Wycliffe Well, the UFO capital of Australia!
Rae, who was first across the line, even had time to stop for a picture!! He later attributed his win to being the most proficient liar in estimating his speed.....

Fastest time - Chris, of course!

After all the excitement died down, we packed up lunch and vanned into the Barrow Creek Pub, our home for the night. The only rooms available were little cell blocks with a single bed and nothing else and the toilet and shower facilities were quite disgusting... Most of us spent the day in the pub which had an empty dining room for us to sit in. We had some local company too.

Barrow Creek is "on the map" because of the Bradley Murdoch escapades with British tourists some years ago... apart from that, it has no claim to anything other than, perhaps, filthiest camp site so far.

I was able to find a reasonable spot for the tent after dinner of barbecued chicken, courtesy of Jon, and managed a decent night's sleep....
